Description:
Econazole nitrate is an antifungal medication of the imidazole class. It is used as a cream under the brand names Spectazole (US), Ecostatin (Canada) and Pevaryl (Western Europe) to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, tinea or pityriasis versicolor, ringworm, and jock itch.
Econazole is white to yellowish crystalline or crystalline powder. Odourless. Econazole is soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in trichloromethane and extremely slightly soluble in water.
(1) Econazole at about 3mg, with 2 drops of sulfuric acid and 1 drop of diphenylamine, should show dark blue.
(2) Econazole at the wavelengths of 265nm, 272nm and 280nm, the largest absorption at the wavelengths was detected by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry.
