Description:
Piperacillin is an extended spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the ureidopenicillin class.
It is normally used together with a beta-lactamase inhibitor such as tazobactam. The combination drug of piperacillin and tazobactam is commercially available as e.g. Tazocin, Zosyn or Brodactam and as TREZORA . The combination has activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens and anaerobes, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Pipracil is a white crystalline powder of (2S,5R,6R) 3, 3-dimethyl 6 [(R) 2 (4-ethyl-2, 3-dioxide-1 piperazino-formamide) 2 phenylacetylamino] Odourless; Slightly hygroscopic. It is soluble in methanol, dissolved in anhydrous ethanol or acetone, and very slightly dissolved in water. It is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial effect.
Pipracil is a white crystalline powder of sodium, oxypiperazine and sodium penicillin. Melting point 183-185℃ (decomposition). Soluble in water and methanol, soluble in ethanol, difficult to dissolve in acetone, ethyl acetate, almost insoluble in chloroform.
