Protamine sulfate

Product name:Protamine sulfate
CAS:9009-65-8
Specification:1g
Description:
Protamine sulfate is a drug that reverses the anticoagulant effects of heparin by binding to it.
Protamine was originally isolated from the sperm of sharks and other species of fish but is now produced primarily through recombinant biotechnology. It is a highly cationic peptide. It binds to heparin to form a stable ion pair which does not have anticoagulant activity; on its own, protamine has a weak anticoagulant effect. The complex of heparin and protamine is then removed and broken down by the reticuloendothelial system.
Protamine sulfate, a low molecular weight protein with strong alkalinity, is a sulfate of alkaline protein extracted from fresh mature sperm of suitable male fish. Modern pharmacology classifies protamine sulfate as an anti-heparin drug.

Protamine sulfate is a white or similar white powder, slightly soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether, and acidic to litmus test paper.

There are strong alkaline groups in the molecule, which can bind to strong acid heparin in vivo and make it lose anticoagulant activity, so it is a heparin antagonist.

Mainly applicable to: 1. Hemorrhage caused by excessive dosage of heparin (protamine sulfate 1 mg can neutralize heparin 1 mg). (2) Some diseases have hemorrhage with heparin-like substance elevation. (3) Hemorrhage of other causes, such as hypermenorrhea, postpartum hemorrhage, tendency of hemorrhage after radiotherapy, etc.
