Description:
Rifampicin is an intensely red solid, and the small fraction which reaches body fluids is known for imparting a harmless red-orange color to the urine (and to a lesser extent, also sweat and tears) of users, for a few hours after a dose. Maximal concentrations in the blood are decreased by about a third when the antibiotic is taken with food.
Rifampicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic drug belonging to rifamycin family, which has a strong antibacterial effect on tuberculosis bacillus, and also has curative effect on gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria and viruses. Is a red or dark red crystalline powder, insoluble in water. Usually taken orally in capsules or tablets, it works synergistically with other anti-tb drugs and delays the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Mainly used to treat tuberculosis, meningitis and staphylococcus aureus infection; External use can treat trachoma.
Rifampicin is a powder of orange-red flake crystals or brick-red crystals. Decomposition at 183-188℃. It is soluble in chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, soluble in ethyl acetate, methanol and tetrahydrofuran, soluble in water (pH < 6), propanol and carbon tetrachloride. The dry powder of Rifampicin can be stabilized for more than 5 years, and its aqueous solution fails at room temperature for 10h. However, the addition of reducing agent (such as anticyclic acid) can reduce decomposition and is extremely stable in dimethyl sulfoxide.
