What diseases are Metronidazole used to treat

Metronidazole has strong antimicrobial activity against anaerobes, trichomonas, amoeba and Giardia lamblia.

Metronidazole is used for:

1) Mixed infections of various aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, including abdominal and pelvic infections, lung abscess, brain abscess, etc., but usually need to be combined with anti-aerobic antibiotics.

2) Oral administration can be used for Clostridium difficile-induced pseudomembranous enteritis, Hp-related gastritis, periodontal infection and Gardnerella vaginitis, etc. It is the preferred drug for the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis.

3) Treatment of intestinal and parenteral amoebiasis, Trichomonas vaginalis, guinea worm disease, Giardia disease and colonic pouch ciliatosis.

4) Combined with other antibiotics, it can be used as a preventive drug for pelvic, intestinal and abdominal surgery.
